This is where I am going to put all of my thoughts and any pending questions I have throughout my studies!

My understandings thus far…

  • Data Science is the analysis of any data gathered from any part of the world. In this sense, data science is everywhere and in everything. Data gathered reflects upon where the data came from, who it was based off of, and why it was even gathered in the first place. Because data reflects society, we use data to model society Data science is also used to predict things that could happen in the future based off of things that have already happened. Being able to predict things means that issues like health problems can be fixed quicker, the economy can be determined and redirected before a potential crash, and weather can be predicted.
  • In studying data science, there have been two sides of it, the actual analysis of data and then the ethics of how data is gathered and used. A huge part of the ethics side has been the privacy of the people that the data is based off of. Data ethics is also about the making sure that people aren’t discriminated against by code and models, even if those code and models weren’t meant to discriminate against someone.
  • Philosophy, which means the love of wisdom, is the study and application of thoughts and wisdom upon not only oneself but the people and world around them. It is the basis in which our entire world has been created. Concepts are based in thought, and thinking is the entirety of philosophy.

Concepts I’ve learned thus far…

  • Liner regression (Data Science)
  • Logistical regression (Data Ethics)
  • Structure analysis (Data Science/Ethics)
  • De-anonymization (Data Ethics)
  • Moral biases (Data Ethics/Philosophy)
  • Contractarianism (Data Ethics/Philosophy)
